OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- The Oakland Raiders announced late Tuesday that head Coach Tom Cable would not be back next season.

The team said in a written statement that Cable's contract, which expired at the end of the season, would not be extended.

Cable took over the team in 2008 and compiled a 17-27 regular season record. The Raiders made waves in the AFC West this season, racking up an 8-8 mark and a 6-0 mark against division foes.

The Raiders made no announcement about a new head coach.
