DALLAS, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Jason Terry got hot late in the game, connecting on a pair of key baskets for the Dallas Mavericks en route to an 84-81 win over Portland.
Terry and DeShawn Stevenson each finished with 18 points and Tyson Chandler added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Mavericks, who improved to 19-4 in their last 23 games.
Dallas played its fifth straight game without injured superstar Dirk Nowitzki -- who is out with a sprained right knee -- and got more bad injury news before the contest when the team learned forward Caron Butler is likely to miss the rest of the season due to a knee surgery.
The Trail Blazers had a chance to tie the game at the final buzzer but LaMarcus Aldridge missed a 3-point try.
Aldridge ended with 28 points and 10 rebounds and Marcus Camby put in 20 points and grabbed 20 rebounds for the Portland.
