Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DENVER, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Carmelo Anthony returned from a five-game absence to score 16 points and grab 10 rebounds Saturday in Denver's 104-86 triumph over lowly Sacramento.
Anthony, who was out because of the death of his sister, managed to hit just six of 22 shots in a 30-minute performance in the Nuggets' third win in a row.
Chauncey Billups led Denver with 22 points. J.R. Smith and Nene also hit double figures.
The Kings got 17 points from Jason Thompson and 16 from DeMarcus Cousins.
Sacramento returned to its losing ways after a win over Memphis Wednesday and has now lost nine of its last 10 for an NBA-worst 6-24 record.
