Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Joe Johnson pumped in 29 points and the Atlanta Hawks went on a 17-5 run late in the game to pull out a 107-98 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Trailing 83-76 early in the fourth quarter, the Hawks heated up and put the game away with a late surge. Johnson scored six of his points during the run and Josh Smith (22 points, 10 rebounds) connected on a pair of 3-pointers.
Jamal Crawford came off the bench to score 24 points for the Hawks, who won for the third time in four games.
Blake Griffin struck for 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Baron Davis added 15 points for the Clippers.
