RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Sergei Samsonov and Jeff Skinner each scored two goals Saturday, lifting the Carolina Hurricanes to their third straight win, 6-3 over New Jersey.
Tuomo Ruutu added a goal and three assists, including a tally less than 2 minutes into the game that put Carolina ahead for good and triggered an early four-goal outburst.
Skinner, Samsonov and Zac Daipe also found the net in the first 20 minutes. Cam Ward turned aside 25-of-28 shots for the victors.
Rod Pelley, Travis Zajac and Patrik Elias each scored a goal for Devils, who dropped their seventh game in eight contests.
The struggling Martin Brodeur was pulled after 8 minutes when he let in three goals on seven shots for New Jersey. Johan Hedberg came in and stopped 15-of-18 shots the rest of the way.
