Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Wesley Matthews and LaMarcus Aldridge combined for 56 points Thursday in helping the Portland Trail Blazers pull away in the second half and beat Utah 100-89.
The Jazz had a four-game road winning streak halted and fell back into a tie with Oklahoma City for the lead in the Northwest Division.
Matthews had 29 points and Aldridge overcame foul problems to score 27. Marcus Camby claimed 19 rebounds for Portland, which returned home after a 1-2 road swing.
The Trail Blazers led by three at the half, but built as much as a 17-point cushion in the latter stages of the game.
Deron Williams scored 19 points to lead Utah, which fell to 3-4 against division rivals this season.
