Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

ATLANTA, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Tim Stapleton and Bryan Little scored shootout goals Thursday to bring the Atlanta Thrashers a 3-2 decision over Boston.
Atlanta goaltender Ondrej Pavelec was perfect in the shootout after making 42 saves in regulation and overtime.
Neither team could score a regulation goal after Tobias Enstrom tied it for the Bruins on the power play midway through the second period. It was the second goal of the game for Enstrom, who has seven for the season.
Patrice Bergeron and Blake Wheeler tallied for the Thrashers, who had lost their previous four games. Boston had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Tim Thomas, who leads the NHL in goals-against average and save percentage, took the loss while stopping 30 shots.
