DENVER, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Niklas Kronwall connected on a power-play goal late in overtime Monday, handing the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 win over Colorado.
Avs goalie Peter Budaj was whistled for tripping with 3 minutes remaining in overtime, giving the Wings a 4-on-3 power play. He paid the price with 1:18 left when Kronwall's blast found its way past him, and Detroit notched its third win in four games.
Chris Osgood turned aside 46 saves to earn his 400th career victory and become only the 10th NHL goalie in history to reach that level.
Nicklas Lidstrom scored and added three assists while Jiri Hudler and Kronwall contributed a goal and assist each for the Red Wings, who also got a tally from Johan Franzen.
The Avalanche got two goals from Matt Duchene and T.J. Galiardi added a score in its third straight loss.
Budaj let in four goals on 30 shots.
