
NEW YORK, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Matt Gilroy scored twice for the New York Rangers, who erupted for six straight goals Monday in their 7-2 rout of the New York Islanders.
Gilroy's first goal of the season gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead only 44 seconds into the game, and his second put them up for good at 3-2 with 8 minutes left in the middle frame.
Brian Boyle added a goal and two assists, and Brandon Dubinsky and Derek Stepan added a score and a helper apiece in the Rangers' one-sided victory.
Marian Gaborik and Ruslan Fedotenko added goals and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 18-of-20 shots for the winners.
Rob Schremp and P.A. Parenteau found the net and Dwayne Roloson was scorched for all seven goals on 52 shots for the Islanders, whose three-game winning streak was snapped.
