CHICAGO, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane was placed on the injured reserved list and winger Marian Hossa was activated Sunday, the team said.
Kane, who hasn't played for seven games after sustaining a lower-body injury, was put on the IR to accommodate the addition of goalie Hannu Toivonen, who was recalled from the American Hockey League to replace Corey Crawford, out due to illness, NHL.com reported.
Blackhawks Coach Joel Quenneville said Kane may make his return Tuesday at St. Louis. He told the Web site that Monday's practice will determine if Kane is ready to come back.
Meanwhile, Hossa was set to return Sunday in the Blackhawks' game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The high-scoring winger was taken off the injured reserve list after missing 10 games with a leg injury sustained during a late-November collision with teammate Nick Boynton during practice.
