PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Davis Love III and Jose Maria Olazabal are likely to be tapped as captains for their sides in the 2012 Ryder Cup, separate reports said.
Golfchannel.com said Thursday a source told the Web site Love will be named to head the U.S. team by the PGA of America in early January.
Meanwhile, several European news outlets reported the European Tour will hold a news conference Jan. 18 in Abu Dhabi and Olazabal is expected to be named captain.
Love, 46, played in six Ryder Cups for the U.S. team. He was an assistant to Corey Pavin this year in Wales. He has 20 PGA Tour victories, including the 1997 PGA Championship.
Olazabal lost out to Colin Montgomerie for the 2010 post, but was an assistant to captain Nick Faldo in 2008. When the format changed in this year's Ryder Cup and captains were allowed to add another assistant, Montgomerie selected Olazabal.
The 39th Ryder Cup matches are scheduled for September 28-30, 2012.
