SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Antero Niittymaki turned in 26 saves Tuesday and narrowly missed a shutout in San Jose's 2-1 win over Edmonton.

Niittymaki kept the Oilers off the scoreboard until 18:01 of the third period when Dustin Penner tallied his 11th goal of the season.

Niittymaki was hit by 13 shots in the third period after two periods in which the Oilers had a total of 14 shots on goal.

Logan Couture and Dan Boyle scored second-period goals for the Sharks, who have won three straight games and nine of their last 10 against Edmonton.

Nikolai Khabibulin allowed two goals on 30 shots in the losing effort.

Penner scored on a tip-in of a slapshot by Ray Whitney after Edmonton pulled Khabibulin for a sixth skater.
