Terrell Owens goes on injured reserved

CINCINNATI, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Wide receiver Terrell Owens, who has a knee injury, was placed on injured reserved Tuesday, ending his season with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Owens suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee Sunday in Cincinnati's win over Cleveland. He had injured the same knee Dec. 5. He had surgery on the knee Monday.

Owens, who turned 37 two weeks ago, was in his first season with the Bengals and had a team-high 72 receptions for 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

Cincinnati was the fifth NFL team -- but third in three seasons -- for Owens, who broke into the league in 1996 with San Francisco and played eight seasons with the 49ers. He also had two seasons in Philadelphia and three with Dallas before joining Buffalo in 2009.

He has caught 1,078 passes for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns in his career. The touchdown reception mark and yardage are both second all-time in the NFL to Jerry Rice's 197 touchdowns and 22,895 yards. He is fifth all-time in receptions.
