Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Jakub Voracek and Jared Boll gave the Columbus Blue Jackets a 2-0 lead Tuesday and Mathieu Garon made it hold up for a 3-1 decision over Calgary.
Voracek got loose during a sustained Columbus offensive thrust in the first period and skated to the top of the slot, where he unleashed a wrist shot that found the net.
Boll then made it 2-0 in the second, scoring off a scramble in front of Henrik Karlsson.
Rostislav Klesla added an empty-netter and Garon made 29 saves to help Columbus break a four-game losing skid.
The Flames got their only goal from Olli Jokinen and Karlsson turned away 34-of-37 shots in Calgary's third straight loss.
