NBA: Dallas 105, Orlando 99

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Dirk Nowitzki passed Larry Bird on the NBA's all-time scoring list with 17 points Tuesday and the Dallas Mavericks handed the Orlando Magic a 105-99 loss.

Nowitzki overtook the Boston Celtics great for 25th on the scoring list with 21,798 points and is 15 points away from tying the next player ahead of him -- Gary Payton.

Caron Butler scored a team-high 20 points, Tyson Chandler added 16 and Jason Kidd donated 13 points and 12 assists in the Mavericks' fourth straight victory.

Dwight Howard put in 26 points and collected 23 rebounds for the Magic, who went down to their fourth straight loss and second since adding Gilbert Arenas, Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark in trades Saturday.
