COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Brad Richards' second goal of the game broke a third-period tie Saturday and the Dallas Stars went on to defeat Columbus 2-1.

With the score tied 1-1, Richards and Loui Eriksson broke into the Columbus zone. Eriksson fed a pass to Richards who launched a snap shot from the left circle that eluded Mathieu Garon 6:17 into the period.

Richards also scored a power-play goal in the first period, snapping a five-game goal drought, and Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves for the Stars.

Fedor Tyutin got the only goal in Columbus's fourth straight loss and Garon ended by making 21 saves.
