ATLANTA, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Jussi Jokinen and Sergei Samsonov scored shootout goals Thursday that brought the Carolina Hurricanes a 3-2 victory over Atlanta.
The Hurricanes had to rally in both regulation and the shootout to win their third straight.
Carolina trailed 2-0 going into the third but Brandon Sutter tipped in a shot 26 seconds into the period and Eric Staal's 13th goal of the season less than 6 minutes later tied it.
Nik Antropov gave the Thrashers the lead in the shootout by scoring in the first round. Chris Mason then allowed goals to the second and third shooters for the Hurricanes.
Cam Ward made 45 saves to get the win. His solid effort came after he was removed from a game against Florida 24 hours earlier after giving up two goals on five shots.
Mason stopped 27 shots for the Thrashers.
