PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Free-agent ace Cliff Lee officially returned to the Philadelphia Phillies fold Wednesday, signing a five-year, $120 million contract.

The team also has an option to keep the 32-year-old left-hander for the 2016 season.

Acquired in mid-season, Lee helped Philadelphia reach the World Series for a second consecutive season in 2009, then was traded to the Seattle Mariners, who dealt him to Texas in July. With Lee bolstering the starting lineup, the Rangers made it to the World Series for the first time.

Back in Philadelphia, Lee joins a rotation that includes Roy Halladay, the 2010 NL Cy Young Award winner, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels, a former World Series MVP.

Lee went a combined 12-9 with a 3.18 earned run average in 28 starts with Seattle and Texas last season. He also finished with a career-best seven complete games.

The 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner has a 102-61 record with a 3.85 ERA in 222 games for his career.
