PITTSBURGH, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Erik Christensen touched off a four-goal surge in just over 6 minutes of the third period Wednesday, bringing the New York Rangers a 4-1 win over Pittsburgh.
After winning 12 straight games, the Penguins have dropped two in a row. It is their first two-game skid in six weeks.
The Rangers have piled up five wins in seven games and got a 27-save performance from Henrik Lundqvist.
New York, however, lost winger Ryan Callahan to a broken left hand in the first period. He suffered the injury while blocking a shot.
Pittsburgh held a 1-0 lead heading into the final period but Christensen scored on the power play with 9:50 to play and Alexander Frolov put the Rangers in front on a backhander 15 seconds later.
Artem Anisimov and Brian Boyle completed the offensive surge against Brent Johnson, who made 18 saves.
Pittsburgh superstar Sidney Crosby assisted on Evgeni Malkin's first-period goal to extend his points streak to a career-best 20 games. He has 20 goals and 19 assists during that stretch.
