NEW YORK, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Henrik Lundqvist shut down Washington and the New York Rangers worked over Capitals goalie Semyon Varlamov in a 7-0 cakewalk Sunday.
After goals by Brandon Prust and Artem Anisimov put the Rangers up 2-0, Marian Gaborik scored on a power play and Brandon Dubinsky got his 14th of the year only 1:23 apart for New York.
Lundqvist recorded his fifth shutout of the season and 29th of his career, stopping 31 shots.
Ryan Callahan added two third-period goals, and Marc Staal contributed a shorthanded tally and an assist for the victors.
The slumping Capitals, meanwhile, were held scoreless for the second time in three games as their season-worst winless streak reached six games.
Varlamov allowed all seven goals, stopping only 13 of 20 shots for Washington.
