NHL: Atlanta 5, N.Y. Islanders 4

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Atlanta's Alexander Burmistrov capped a four-goal, third-period outburst Saturday and the Thrashers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders.

Trailing 2-1 entering the final frame, Johnny Oduya scored twice in less than 2 minutes to put the Thrashers ahead.

After Rob Schremp found the net for the Islanders to forge a 3-3 tie, Bryan Little put the Thrashers up for good when he snapped a shot past a stunned Rick DiPietro off a face-off for a short-handed, unassisted goal.

Burmistrov's tip-in of a Brent Sopel shot with 5:34 to play put Atlanta up 5-3 and the Thrashers hung on after Blake Comeau's power-play tally with 1:16 remaining pulled the Islanders to within one.

Chris Mason made his first start since Nov. 14 and stopped 25-of-29 shots to earn the win for Atlanta.

DiPietro made 30 saves in the defeat.
