WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick, who finished 2010 ranked No. 8 in the world, has committed to play Davis Cup tennis for the United States next year.

Roddick wasn't on the U.S. team that lost a first-round series in March to Serbia, which went on to win the 2010 Davis Cup title. But he said he would rejoin the team for its March 4-6 first-round series against Chile.

Those matches will mark the debut of Jim Courier as U.S. team captain.

"Having Andy commit to the 2011 campaign is huge for our team," Courier said. "Andy not only brings his outstanding Davis Cup record but also his experience and team leadership, which will be invaluable to our efforts.

"On a personal note I am very excited to get the opportunity to sit on the bench with Andy and help him continue to perform at his very best on the Davis Cup stage."

Roddick, who was on the team in 2007 when it won its most recent Davis Cup championship, is 31-11 in his Davis Cup career. Only John McEnroe (41) has more Davis Cup wins for the U.S. team.
