NHL: Florida 3, Washington 0

WASHINGTON, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Tomas Vokoun made 36 saves while picking up his third shutout of the season Thursday, bringing Florida a 3-0 victory over Washington.

After winning four games in a row and jumping to the top of the NHL standings, the Capitals have lost four straight and given up the lead to the hot Pittsburgh Penguins, winners of 11 straight.

Florida has captured three consecutive games and Vokoun won for just the second time in six starts. He has 41 shutouts in his 13-year career. His largest single-season total came last year with seven.

The game was scoreless until Michael Frolik sent a wrist shot past Semyon Varlamov with just 1 second remaining in the middle period.

Steve Bernier and Mike Santorelli produced goals in the third, Santorelli's tally coming on the power play.

Varlamov stopped 29-of-32 shots.
