STORRS, Conn., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- A University of Connecticut freshman football player surrendered Wednesday to face child pornography charges.

A second student, Steven Donald Lewis, 21, of Plainville, Conn., was also charged Wednesday, WVIT-TV reported.

McKee was a redshirt player with the team who practiced during the spring and summer but had not played in any games, the Courant said.

He graduated from Martin Luther King College Prep in December 2009 and entered UConn in January. In high school, in addition to playing football, he was one of the top wrestlers in Illinois.

State police said they began an investigation in September after getting a tip about possession and distribution of child pornography at the university.
