TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Sean Bergenheim scored with 4:05 remaining to give Tampa Bay a three-goal lead Saturday and the Lightning then barely hung on to defeat Colorado 6-5.

The Avalanche produced two late goals to throw a scare into Tampa Bay, which had lost its six previous meetings with Colorado.

Simon Gagne and Martin St. Louis both had a goal and two assists for the Lightning.

After Berhenheim gave Tampa Bay a seemingly safe lead in the late going, Colorado pulled goaltender Peter Budaj and the move paid off with an offensive flurry.

Brandon Yip tallied with 2:11 to go and Kevin Shattenkirk scored with 1:06 left. Dan Ellis managed to fight off the Avalanche the rest of the way and got the win with 19 saves.

Colorado has lost three straight and has won just once in six games. Budaj gave up all six goals on 39 shots.
