WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Hollis Thompson's 3-pointer touched off a 13-point run early in the second half Saturday that carried No. 14 Georgetown to a 68-51 victory over Utah State.
The Hoyas improved to 8-0 while shooting 52 percent from the field.
Chris Wright hit 6-of-9 field goal attempts and was 8-of-10 from the line to lead Georgetown with 21 points. He was the only member of the Hoyas to score in double figures.
Georgetown had a 37-31 lead when Thompson started the key surge with 18:09 remaining in the second half. He also had a layup during the run, which lifted the Hoyas into a 50-31 advantage with 13:37 to play.
Pooh Williams paced Utah State with nine points. Tai Wesley, who was averaging 15.3 points a game coming into the contest, got into early foul trouble and scored just eight.
Utah State (5-2) won 27 games last season and reached the NCAA Tournament before losing in the first round to Texas A&M.
