Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
MONTREAL, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Dustin Penner scored on a breakaway with 2:32 to go in overtime Wednesday, lifting the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-3 victory over Montreal.
The Oilers overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period en route to their eighth win of the season. That is the fewest number of victories in the Western Conference.
Ales Hemsky and Sam Gagner scored in a span of 3:08 in the third to rally Edmonton, and Penner then made the most of a Montreal turnover in the neutral zone during the overtime.
Edmonton has won back-to-back games for the first time since beginning the season with consecutive victories.
Devin Dubnyk got the victory by making 36 saves. Dubnyk shut out the Canadiens for the final 30 minutes after Roman Hamrlik gave Montreal a 3-1 lead with a tip-in.
Carey Price stopped 28 shots for the Canadiens, whose lead over Boston in the Northeast Division was reduced to three points.
