EDMONTON, Alberta, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Eric Belanger scored the deciding goal in the fifth round of the shootout Friday, giving the Phoenix Coyotes a 4-3 victory over Edmonton.
The Coyotes fell behind 3-0 before rallying for their fifth consecutive victory.
Both teams had a goal during the first three shootout rounds and both had one in the fourth round -- Lee Stempniak scoring for Phoenix and Taylor Hall for Edmonton.
Belanger then faked Devan Dubnyk away from the goal mouth and lifted a shot just under the crossbar to win it. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 27 shots for the victory.
Lauri Korpikoski and Radim Vrbata scored 1:23 apart in the second period to get the Coyotes within a goal and it remained a 3-2 contest until Wojtek Wolski tallied with 35 seconds remaining in regulation.
Dubnyk made 39 saves in taking the loss.
