St. Louis trailed 1-0 going into the second period but Brad Boyes tied it on the power play midway through the stanza and Colaiacovo gave the Blues the lead less than a minute later.

Eric Brewer increased the advantage to 3-1 after two periods and both McDonald and Patrik Berglund scored in the third.

St. Louis defeated Ottawa for the first time since Nov. 27, 2001, having lost six games to the Senators in that span.

Ottawa has dropped three in a row and four of its last five.

Elliott gave up all five goals on 33 shots. Ty Conklin had to make only 18 saves for the Blues.
