NBA: New Orleans 99, Dallas 97

NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- David West made a free throw with 2 seconds left Wednesday and had two key steals that preserved a 99-97 win for the New Orleans Hornets over Dallas.

The Hornets suffered their first loss of the season Monday in Dallas and fell behind the Mavericks by 10 at halftime Wednesday.

New Orleans then outscored the Mavericks by 16 in the third period and made the key plays down the stretch to remain unbeaten at home in six games. The only other NBA teams without a home loss are Boston and Golden State.

Dirk Nowitzki brought Dallas within a point on a layup with 9 seconds left and Jason Kidd stole the ensuing inbounds pass. Nowitzki, however, had the ball stolen by West as he was attempting to get off a potential game-winning shot.

Kidd immediately fouled West, who made 1-of-2 foul shots and then stole the ball away from Tyson Chandler to clinch the victory.

Chris Paul led the Hornets with 20 points and both West and Marco Belinelli had 17. Nowitzki scored 29 points with nine rebounds. The Mavericks had won four in a row.
