CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Seventeen-year-old reserve forward Juan Agudelo scored in the 85th minute Wednesday, handing Team USA a 1-0 win over South Africa in Cape Town.
Agudelo, who came in as substitute early in the second half, collected a touch from fellow rookie Mikkel Diskerud inside the penalty area, settled the ball and then roofed a 6-yard shot into the net for the game-winner.
Team USA Coach Bob Bradley tapped Agudelo from the New York Red Bulls of the MLS for his national side debut in the friendly against South Africa.
Bradley also gave several other first-time players a look in Cape Town, including Diskerud -- a 20-year-old dual Norwegian-American citizen -- as well as Kansas City Wizards forward Teal Bunbury, Red Bulls defender Tim Ream and Aston Villa right back Eric Lichaj, The Washington Post reported.
