Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- The San Francisco 49ers said Wednesday they have signed kicker Shane Andrus to a one-year contract after veteran Joe Nedney sustained an injury.
Nedney suffered a strained right knee and bone bruise Sunday in the 49ers' 23-20 overtime victory against the St. Louis Rams.
Terms of the deal for Andrus -- who played five games for three teams last season -- were not disclosed.
Andrus, 30, kicked for San Francisco, Tampa Bay and Indianapolis last season, converting all 10 of his extra point tries. He booted four in his single game with the 49ers.
