Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

GLENDALE, Ariz., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Ray Whitney's hat trick en route to a five-point performance Saturday, boosted the Phoenix Coyotes to a 5-3 win over St. Louis.
Radim Vrbata chipped in with a goal and two assists, and Martin Hanzal got Phoenix's other goal in the Coyotes' third straight victory.
Ilya Bryzgalov made 35 saves in the win, including 17 in the third period. He allowed the Blues to creep to within a goal with less than 2 minutes remaining on Brad Boyes's tally, but then closed the door.
Andy McDonald got a goal and two assists for the Blues, who dropped their third straight.
David Backes, who earlier Saturday signed a five-year contract extension with the Blues for a reported $22.5 million, added a goal in the defeat.
