Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Shelvin Mack pumped in 20 points Saturday, helping No. 18 Butler get its season off to a good start with an 83-54 victory over Marian.
Mack, Matt Howard and Ronald Nored are among three starters returning from last year's Bulldogs squad, which came within a missed half-court heave of upsetting Duke for the national title in April.
Sophomore center Andrew Smith contributed 10 points and Howard posted six points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (1-0), who jumped off to a 14-point halftime lead and cruised at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Jordan Tucker scored 11 points for the Knights (0-1) of the Mid-Central College Conference.
