Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
ATLANTA, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Ondrej Pavelec took a shutout into the third period Thursday and the Atlanta Thrashers ended a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over Minnesota.
Pavelec gave Chris Mason a rest and won for the first time this season after dropping his first three decisions. He made 32 saves and did not give up a goal until Antti Miettinen scored on the power play 3:15 into the third period to cut into Atlanta's 3-0 lead.
Ben Eager and Jim Slater scored in the first period and Andrew Ladd produced a backbreaking goal with just 45 seconds left in the second.
Fredrik Modin scored shorthanded 3 minutes after Miettinen's goal and Nik Antropov finished the scoring with 5:08 to play.
Niklas Backstrom stopped 29-of-34 shots for the Wild, who had won three in a row.
