Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Shawn Thornton put Boston in front during a five-goal third period Wednesday that rallied the Bruins to a 7-4 win over Pittsburgh.
The Penguins took a 4-2 lead into the final stanza, but then endured a defensive collapse that began with goals from Nathan Horton and Zdeno Chara in a span of 15 seconds.
That got the game tied and Thornton gave the Bruins the lead by putting a wrist shot past Brent Johnson with 7:20 to play in regulation. Blake Wheeler added a backhander with 3:47 to go and Milan Lucic finished off the final-period assault with an empty-netter.
Johnson gave up six goals on 32 shots.
Tim Thomas, who came into the game giving up an average of just 1.05 goals per contest, faced 46 shots. He allowed two goals in each of the first two periods, the last of them scored by Sidney Crosby on the power play with 23 seconds remaining in the second frame. It was Crosby's 10th of the season.
Boston halted a two-game skid.
