Federer, Djokovic, Murray win in Paris

PARIS, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Top seed Roger Federer, No. 2 Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Andy Murray were second-round winners Wednesday at the BNP Paribas Masters tennis tournament in Paris.

Federer defeated Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4. Djokovic eliminated Juan Monaco 6-4, 6-3 and Murray defeated David Nalbandian 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to join Federer and Djokovic in advancing to the third round.

No. 4 seed and French Open finalist Robin Soderling of Sweden also had little trouble Wednesday, dispatching Frenchman Gilles Simon, 6-4, 6-0, using 11 aces to log the win in only 63 minutes.

He will now go on to face Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland.

It was a tough day for qualifiers, with seventh-seeded David Ferrer defeating Fabio Fognini 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4); No. 8 Andy Roddick dropping Jarkko Nieminen 6-1, 6-4; 10th-seeded Nikolay Davydenko eliminating Thomaz Bellucci 6-3, 6-0; and Jurgen Melzer, the 11th seed, defeating Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).

Marin Cilic, seeded 13th, beat Sergiy Stakhovsky, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

The only seeded players losing second-round matches Wednesday were Ivan Ljubicic (15), who fell to Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-4, and 16th-seed John Isner, who lost to Michael Llodra 6-3, 6-4.
