
NEW YORK, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Matt Hendricks completed a Washington comeback with a go-ahead, third-period goal Tuesday and the Capitals went on to defeat the New York Rangers 5-3.
Trailing 3-2 midway through the second frame, Mike Knuble scored to bring the Capitals even. Washington then went ahead 7:53 into the final frame when Matt Bradley gained control of the puck behind the net and found Hendricks all alone in front for the one-timer.
Brooks Laich got two goals, including an empty-netter, John Erskine added another, and Mike Green and Alex Ovechkin each notched a pair of assists for the Caps, who won their fifth straight game.
Michal Neuvirth stopped 25-of-28 New York shots in the victory.
Brian Boyle scored twice in the first period and Derek Boogaard ended a 234-game scoring drought with a goal as the Rangers fell to 2-5-1 at home.
Henrik Lundqvist saved 19-of-23 shots for New York.
