
RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Joe Corvo scored two goals and Eric Staal notched four assists Tuesday in the Carolina Hurricanes' 7-1 blowout of Edmonton.
Corvo, Erik Cole, Pat Dwyer and Chad LaRose all scored in the first period, chasing Oilers goalie Nikolai Khabibulin after finding the net on four of their first eight shots.
Sergei Samsonov and Jeff Skinner also tallied for the Hurricanes, who got two assists each from Brandon Sutter, Skinner and Joni Pitkanen in the victory.
Cam Ward stopped 21-of-22 shots as Carolina notched back-to-back victories for the first time since its first two games of the season.
Dustin Penner got the only for the Oilers, who lost for the seventh time in eight contests.
Devan Dubnyk replaced Khabibulin stopped 31-of-34 shots the rest of the way.
