Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
CINCINNATI, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Ben Roethlisberger tossed for 163 yards and a score Monday and the Pittsburgh Steelers survived a furious Cincinnati rally to eke out a 27-21 victory.
Roethlisberger (17-for-27, one interception) found Hines Ward on an 8-yard TD pass late in the second quarter and Jeff Reed booted a pair of first-half field goals to help give the Steelers (6-2) a 20-7 halftime lead.
Pittsburgh seemed in charge after Antwaan Randle El connected on a 39-yard scoring pass to Mike Wallace early in the fourth quarter for a 20-point lead. But Carson Palmer (22-of-36, 248 yards, two touchdowns) rallied the Bengals for 14 late points.
Trailing by six, Palmer drove the Bengals (2-6) to the Steelers' 12-yard line with 40 seconds left, but his fourth-down pass to Jordan Shipley fell incomplete, sealing Pittsburgh's win.
Terrell Owens grabbed 10 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns for Cincinnati, which lost its fifth straight game.
