Flyers sign Giroux to 3-year extension

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Flyers have signed former first-round draft choice Claude Giroux to a three-year contract extension, the team said Monday.

The terms of the deal weren't revealed but Canadian broadcaster TSN reported it was for a total of $11.25 million, with $2.75 million due in first year.

Giroux has totaled 32 goals and 56 assists over 141 games since the Flyers drafted him 22nd overall in 2006. The 22-year old has seven goals and 14 assists in 15 games this season, both team highs.

Giroux had 16 goals and 31 assists while appearing in all 82 games last season, adding 10 goals and 11 assists in 23 post-season games during the Flyers' run to the Stanley Cup Finals.
