MONTREAL, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Alex Kovalev netted a pair of goals Saturday and Ottawa notched its fifth win in six games with a 3-2 decision over Montreal.

Kovalev's first goal came with less than 3 minutes left in the first period and put the Senators ahead for good. His second tally 6:42 into the final frame gave Ottawa some much-needed insurance at 3-1.

Zack Smith got the other goal for the Sens. Peter Regin and Erik Karlsson each contributed two assists and Brian Elliott turned aside 21 shots to earn his seventh win of the season.

The Canadiens got goals from Jaroslav Spacek by Brian Gionta but absorbed their third loss in four games.

Carey Price collected 28 saves for Montreal.
