Dakota Phone wins BC Dirt Mile

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Dakota Phone rallied from the back of the field to win Saturday's $1 million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile by a nose over Morning Line.

Gayego finished third and Cool Coal Man was fourth as the 1 mile over a fast track went in 1:35.29.

While Dakota Phone, with Joel Rosario up, dawdled at the back of the 13-horse field, Morning Line took the lead coming down the stretch. Dakota Phone, a 5-year-old Zavata gelding, came extremely wide around the field and just did get rolling in time. It took the photo finish camera to separate the two at the end.

Dakota Phone, who had won only once in 10 previous starts this year, went to the post at odds of 37-1.
