NHL: Colorado 5, Columbus 1

DENVER, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Chris Stewart and Peter Stastny each notched a goal and an assist Saturday for the Colorado Avalanche, who bested Columbus 5-1.

The Avs broke the game open with three goals in the middle period, including Stewart's ninth of the year on a power play, David Liffiton's first career marker and Paul Stastny's fifth of the season, assisted by Stewart.

Peter Budaj turned aside 33 shots to collect Colorado's second straight victory.

Derick Brassard got the only goal for the Blue Jackets, who had a three- game winning streak snapped.

Goalie Steve Mason was pulled after surrendering four goals on 19 shots and Mathieu Garon came on to stop 11-of-12 shots the rest of the way.
