49ers owner: Singletary's job safe

LONDON, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- San Francisco 49ers owner John York said Tuesday he's still committed to Coach Mike Singletary despite the team's disappointing 1-6 start.

York, speaking to reporters in London where the 49ers were preparing to play the Denver Broncos Sunday at Wembley Stadium, said Singletary is still his man despite reports of dissatisfaction in the owner's suite, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

"Yes, he's our coach," York answered when asked if Singletary would be around for the rest of the season.

The 49ers owner discounted a report carried by Comcast Sports Net Bay Area that he and his son Jed York were "grumbling" about the coach after the team's 23-20 loss to Carolina Sunday.

"I'm not sure why somebody would have said that," John York told the newspaper. "We were grumbling because we lost the game. I think we grumble any time we lose the game."
