Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Rene Bourque scored twice during a four-goal, first-period outburst Sunday and the Calgary Flames downed San Jose 4-0.
Bourque's two tallies gave him five in his last two games. He bookended the big period with goals while Jarome Iginla and Craig Conroy scored in between for the Flames.
Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside all 27 shots that he faced to notch his second shutout of the season and 36th of his career.
Sharks goalie Antti Niemi, making his first start since allowing five goals against Carolina last week, let in three goals on the first five shots he saw and was pulled in favor of Antero Niittymaki, who stopped 24-of-25 shots the rest of the way.
