NHL: Phoenix 4, Los Angeles 2

GLENDALE, Ariz., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Lee Stempniak completed a hat trick by scoring into an empty net with 32 seconds left Thursday, wrapping up a 4-2 win for Phoenix over Los Angeles.

The Kings had a three-game winning streak snapped and lost at home for the first time in four games this season.

Stempniak scored the only two goals of the first period and Andrew Ebbett gave Phoenix a 3-0 lead 5:49 into the second by producing a shorthanded goal.

Wayne Simmonds brought the Kings back with a pair of goals, the second of them coming with 2:41 to play in regulation.

Los Angeles then pulled goaltender Jonathan Quick to no avail.

The goals for Stempniak were his first three of the season. He had a career-best 28 last year.

The win went to Ilya Bryzgalov, who made 29 saves. Quick stopped 23 shots.
