MIAMI, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Miami guard Mike Miller, who joined the Heat as a free agent this year, reportedly will be out of action until at least January following thumb surgery.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Miller had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. He suffered the injury when his hand became ensnared in a teammate's jersey during practice Wednesday.
Miller had recently been starting at the shooting guard position due to the absence of Dwyane Wade, who is recovering from a hamstring injury suffered at the start of the exhibition season.
Miller, 30, is a career 40.5 percent 3-point shooter and his newly signed contract is reportedly worth $25 million for five years. He previously played for Orlando, Memphis, Minnesota and Washington.
