CASTELLON, Spain, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Peter Hedblom had an eagle on his next-to-last hole Friday and has a 1-stroke lead halfway through the European Tour's Castello Masters in Spain.

Hedblom shot a 7-under-par 64 in the second round and is at 9-under 133 after 36 holes. Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Matteo Manassero, who each shot 5-under 66 Friday, and Paul Lawrie (70 Friday) are tied for second at 8-under.

Ricardo Gonzalez, who was tied with Lawrie for first after Thursday's round, shot 71 Friday and is in a group of four players tied for fifth, two strokes behind Hedblom.

Hedblom's lead could have been a little wider but he closed the round with a bogey at the ninth hole, missing a 4-foot par putt.

He started his round with three pars and was 3-under on the day after 12 holes. Then he had a birdie at No. 4. After a par he added birdies at Nos. 6 and 7 and then dropped a long putt for eagle at the 549-yard, par-5 eighth hole to get to 8-under for the round.

"It was a very solid round but I'm a little disappointed to finish with a bogey," Hedblom said. "Other than that, I still have the lead and two days to go."
