
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Carolina's Cam Ward turned in 41 saves Tuesday in the Hurricanes' 5-2 road win over the San Jose Sharks.
Five Carolina players scored goals, including Chad LaRose, who also recorded two assists in the contest that ended the Hurricanes' two-game losing streak.
San Jose out-shot Carolina 43-31 in the game, but Ward shut out the Sharks in the first and third periods.
Eric Staal and Eric Cole scored in the first period and Patrick Dwyer added one at 2:43 of the second period to put the Carolina ahead 3-0.
Patrick Marleau scored two second-period goals for the Sharks, who are winless in their last three games. Antti Niemi allowed five goals on 31 shots.
LaRose, who assisted on the Staal and Dwyer goals, made it 4-2 with a goal at 2:11 of the third period with an assist from Staal. Joni Pitkanin closed out the scoring for Carolina at 7:05.
